Ongoing activities

"Research Saves Lives" informing campaign
It is a population informing campaign about the role of the pharmaceutical companies in finding efficient therapies and eradicating diseases.
The creative approach in the "Research Saves Lives" campaign brings forward the purpose of existence and the achievements of the major pharmaceutical companies.
The primary message of the campaign is that the time and financial resources invested in research by the major pharmaceutical companies generated therapies that successfully fight diseases formerly thought to be incurable.
The secondary message shows that, as long as there are diseases, the major pharmaceutical companies are making it their duty to continue the research, in the quest of finding new, efficient, therapies.
Finally, the slogan "Research Saves Lives", concentrates in a persuasive phrase the message of the entire campaign, of increased awareness of the benefits that pharmaceutical industry research brings in everyone's lives. |
The ARPIM Code of Ethics in Medicine Promotion
The ARPIM Code of Ethics in Medicine Promotion is a document developed by the ARPIM Ethical Issues Workgroup, which regulates the process of promoting prescription based drugs, formulates the minimal conduct standards that ARPIM members should comply with, to create an ethical competitive environment, and suggests financial or/and administrative sanctions to be applied in case of Code violation.
In January 2007 Romania becomes an EU member. In order to provide ethical standards as high as those applied in the pharmaceutical industry promotion in EU, ARPIM feels that it is imperative to implement a conduct code similar to the one applied in EU countries. Thus, the ARPIM Code of Ethics in Medicine Promotion will be the reference by which the medicine promotion legal activities will be judged.

The ARPIM Code regarding the interaction with Patient Organisations
Numerous actions for the promotion and supporting of the patients' rights have been going on in Romania lately, with mainly the purpose of increasing the representation and involvement of the patient organisations on a legislative and administrative level. One of the actions taken was setting up the Chronic Diseases Patient Organisation Coalition in Romania (COPAC) on April 20th 2008. The event was admitted to be an important landmark for the discussions with the authorities and with the Public Health Ministry.
Trying to meet the specific needs of the civil society, ARPIM adopted on June 26th 2008 the Practice Code on the partnerships with patient organisations, according to principles established by EFPIA (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations) on an European level.
The Public Health Ministry believes that increased access to information can improve disease prevention, can lead to early diagnosis and therefore to better treatment and better patient compliance. During research activities, pharmaceutical companies have accumulated a large number of information on health, disease and treatment. This fact, together with the long relationship with the health care providers and the increased focus on the patients means that the pharmaceutical industry can bring its contribution to the protection of public health.
The current initiative is integrated in an effort on a European level to increase the transparency of market practices and to provide ethical relationships with patient organisations, admitting at the same time their independence.
